Oregon Wine Board - Letter of Support
Tom Danowski, Executive Director of the Oregon Wine Board | March 14, 2013
On behalf of the Oregon Wine Board, I am writing in support of your efforts to receive a historical marker celebrating the accomplishments of wine pioneer Richard Sommer and recognizing the origins of the fine wine industry in the state. The year 2011 marked the 50th anniversary of Richard's pioneering first planting of Pinot Noir in Oregon.
The planting of this historic site in the Umpqua Valley near Roseburg and the release of HillCrest's first Pinot Noir in 1967 marked the beginning of the modern fine wine industry in Oregon and the recognition and success it has and continues to bring the state.
Sincerely,Tom Danowski Executive Director Oregon Wine Board
